ZADKINE, OSSIP
Ossip Zadkine (July 4, 1890 Vitebsk, Russia -25 November 1967, Paris) was a painter and sculptor of Cubism.
He moved in 1910 to Paris and joined new Cubist movement from 1914 till 1925.
Under the influence of Cubism, he developed a very unique own style.
Ossip Zadkine made his sculptures directly from the stone or from the wood.
In the First World War he was a paramedic and was wounded.
In 1921 and 1925 he was a teacher at the Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
Then he expanded his own style, which was strongly influenced by primitivism and African sculpture.
In 1941 he emigrated to the USA.
In New York, he taught at the Art Students League of New York.
In 1945, he returned to Paris and became a teacher at the Grande Chaumière.
