SUMI, YASUO

Yasuo Sumi (1925 Osaka, Japan – 12 October 2015) was a artist and a member of the Gutai group since 1955.
He participated in all the Gutai exhibitions from the first to the 21st one.

Sumi’s work as a Gutai member included paintings that he created using unconventional objects in place of the brush-like as abacus, as well as umbrellas and combs. He participated in all of the exhibitions.

After the disbandment of Gutai, Sumi moved to the city of Itami in the neighboring Hyogo prefecture, where he continued to practice his art locally.
