LUCEBERT
Lucebert “Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk” (September 15, 1924 Amsterdam, Netherlands – May 10, 1994 Amsterdam, Netherlands) was a artist and poet.
Lucebert studied at the Amsterdam College of Art, but broke up already after half a year in 1938. In 1948 Lucebert founded the Experimentente Groep in Holland with other young poets and painters. Their goal was to “fight frozen aesthetic conceptions” in order to “allow a free development of the new artistic principles”. After working together with Belgian and Danish artists such as Pierre Alechinsky and Asger Jorn and Carl-Henning Pedersen, they founded the group CoBrA in Paris.
With surrealist and Dadaist influences, Lucebert’s lyricism was regarded as avant-garde and revolutionary. He broke the common rules of poetry and created a new, young and modern spelling. His masterpiece also includes paintings, gouaches, drawings, prints and book illustrations.
